When God Speaks Back
A Wondrous Transformation Born from Your Conversations with God
“What you are, the world is.
And without your transformation, there can be no transformation of the world.”
-Jiddu Krishnamurti
On this day, you awaken. As you brush the sleep from your eyes, you notice the infinite colors of green outside your window. The sky is a pure blue, and you see the leaves on the trees blowing softly with a swift and beautiful rhythm. From your open window you breathe in the fresh fragrance of the outdoors, the fragrance of life God has given you. You can smell Russian olive blossoms and roses as they bloom wildly in the spring air. Listening to the sounds of the native birds and wildlife, you realize that God’s world is constantly changing, and communicating to us. This is where you place your focus. For what you focus on, expands.
Life is different for you now. You are living from your true self. You see God’s gifts in front of you; your problems and life situations are not forefront. You realize your mind creates stories to keep struggles going, to keep you from focusing on God, where your heart belongs. You are well aware that your mind’s agenda frequently attempts to cloud the truth of your thoughts. Grabbing your journal, you begin your morning with a sense of excitement in your heart.
Let’s face it, you are changed. Not in overt ways, but within yourself. You have stopped giving yourself negative messages. In fact, you have noticed that your mind’s voice has become quieter and more serene. In its place, you hear God’s reassuring voice speaking kind words of wisdom and encouragement most of your day. Instead of tuning to what your mind wants, you now listen to your hearts wishes. Things that were out of your reach before, no longer seem far away. You do not feel limited by what your mind tells you cannot do. You realize in your heart the mystery of God’s infinite potential. You are living from the belief that “With God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26; Mark 10:27). From where you sit now, you realize the truth of this statement before this change, was always out of your mind’s reach.
As you put your pen to paper and record what is on your mind, slowly you are becoming empty. You can feel as the empty space grows inside, you are increasing your potential for a deeper conversation with God. Your jacket and hat are handy; after your journaling conversation you plan to walk through the spring morning with Him. He will show you metaphors and teach you to put into practice what was discussed in your journaling conversation. Though you awaken early each morning to spend this time with God, you feel as if you have lived a lifetime in His presence.
Not long ago, I was conducting a priest group and we had all come back from our summer breaks. In the beginning of our prayer time, we each spoke around the table about our time off, giving the others a sense of how our summer breaks were. Most of the priests spoke of how they traveled here and there, the people they saw, and the things they did. When it came time for me to speak, I spoke of present moments in the greenery with God, mentioning the sound of the quaking aspen leaves up against the blue skies, the summer breezes that smelled like the fragrance of baby’s breath blossoms, and the beauty of the whitecaps on the lake as I waited for the blue heron to appear. These moments from my walks had become eternally present moments to me. I watched their faces as I spoke of these beautiful, moving scenes, and through “being”, I taught them about the journey of transformation God intended for us. They became a vision of hope and inspiration. They wished to be hope so their parishioners could see hope. The descriptions and gifts of God changed their thoughts. As the years pass, I feel less urgency about letting out my negativity and more passion about speaking of what is beautiful and gifts of God, as they transfer deeper positive desire to others.
Your transformation is so important to the evolution of the world. Many of my students have chosen this transformed life because of the model other students have been to them. They too, have seen that as they are changed they present a model to their significant others and their own children. Many of our students’ spouses listen to God, and they share with each other what they have heard from Him each morning. Some couples teach their children how to listen and to journal, as now there are families listening to God and living lives more peacefully than they had ever imagined. There is always love when we go to the “Center”with God together. Always. an argument ends, and love is shared once more. A transformation of one soon becomes a transformation of many. God’s wish is for every living, human soul to hear His voice, because then there can be peace. It can be a great, eternal and long-lasting peace, in the hearts of all persons. This transformation occurs through listening to God’s voice and following His words meant for you.
Though you may be just beginning to listen to God, you are not far from this transformation. The most important part of your journey is the consistency of your listening, practice and prayer. If you make these a part of your life, you will see a difference in yourself. Those around you begin to respond differently. All of a sudden, your wishes and dreams become reality, not for the things you wanted, but for a life you wished for. Friends become persons who are caring and kind. Those in your life are filled with seeds of the spirit, and God is ever present for them.
My other pieces posted here on Substack describe this process in more detail, as does my book, Teach Them to Hear Me. Look through them and learn how to listen. Listen with love. Listen with consistency. Listen with hope, peace, joy and compassion. But listen to Him. Ask God questions. Listen with vigilance for a quick, kind, loving, thought-impulse sounding answer. Most of all, listen with your heart to God. He wishes so much to be heard by us. Let your transformation be the answer to His wish, “Teach them to hear me.” Become part of a wondrous, ever-changing, world of peace. And if you can BE His peace, they will see His peace.
